Dutch craftsmanship
We’re proud to produce locally, prioritizing craftsmanship, ethical standards, and sustainability.
Choosing Dutch craftsmanship allows us to maintain not only the highest standards of quality, but also a commitment to fair working conditions and environmental responsibility.
In an industry often criticized for pollution and labor exploitation, our approach seeks to create a positive impact.
Section 1: Why Local Production?
We didn’t choose local production because it’s easy.
We chose it because we believe in:
- Knowing who makes your clothes, how, and where.
- Small runs, hands-on finishing, and a level of detail no machine can replicate.
- If we want to stand for something, we need to be close to it.
- Producing in small batches, with purpose, and without waste.
1. It starts with a decision
Before a single sample is made, we ask ourselves:
Would we want our future children to wear this?
If the answer is yes, we begin.
We design slowly, choosing shapes that last, fits that evolve with you, and details that serve a purpose.
2. From design to first sample
We work with small, independent pattern makers who help us translate the idea into its physical form. No AI, no automation, just hands, eyes, and decades of experience.
The first sample isn’t made to impress. It’s made to learn.
We wear it, live in it, wash it, test it, until we’re sure it’s worth putting our name on.
3. Fabric sourcing
We don’t chase trends in fabric. We look for weight, texture, feel, and longevity.
Every fabric is chosen with intention, always ethically sourced, often certified, and only selected when it truly fits the piece.
We're currently transitioning from blends to 100% natural fabrics, such as heavy organic cotton, to ensure longevity and sustainability.
4. Local production
Once a design is approved, production takes place in a small, independent atelier in the Netherlands. These are people we’ve met, visited, and built a relationship with. Each piece is cut, sewn, assembled, and quality-checked by hand. No high-volume factories. No rushed timelines. This is what allows us to maintain control, minimise waste, and ensure every piece meets the standard we live by.
5. Finishing & final checks
Each item is steamed, folded, and labelled manually. The stitching is double checked. Seams are inspected. If something feels off, it doesn’t leave the table.
Section 3: Why It Matters to Us (And to You)
Fast fashion has normalised overconsumption. We want to push back, not just with our products, but with how they’re made. That means investing in pieces that last, made by people you can trust, under conditions that reflect the values we stand for.
Because quality is more than fabric.
In almost every market on earth: food, wine, furniture, art, design: we care about where something is made, and by whom.
Origin matters. Craftsmanship matters. Story matters.
So why not in fashion? At Lieverd ik ben Thuis, we believe the same standard should apply. That’s why we choose local production. That’s why we know our makers.
That’s why we take our time.
At the end of the day, clothes are just clothes. But at Lieverd ik ben Thuis, we strive to make clothes that make you think you’re not just wearing a product, you’re wearing a process. A philosophy. A decision to do things differently.
